LANGUAGE OF MEMORY (9)
10 x 15 cm. 2019. Acrylic Ink and graphite on silk.
In this small scale piece the key shapes from Language of Memory (8) were further reduced in both scale and complexity to create an impression of spontaneity, which contradicts and masks the long process of iteration that led to the evolution of these marks and shapes. Both memory and subjectivity have been processed and subverted.
Series Overview
The Language of Memory (Subjectivity of Perception) series evolved from studies of trees completed in situ and subsequently transformed, through a process of iteration and investigation, into indeterminate forms recording the memory of place. The process aims to build a personal language with which to explore the experience of being physically present, questioning the subjectivity of our individual experiences.
